Anatomy: Kenhub for medical students abroad
Anatomy.
I know exactly what you're thinking, what a nightmare this subject is! I totally agree. Learning anatomy is like learning a new language, and sometimes even harder than that!
When I started studying Anatomy in my first year of studying Dental Medicine at the Medical University of Varna in Bulgaria, I was terrified and confused by the huge volume of content we had to learn. I had no idea where to start.
Unfortunately, good resources for learning anatomy were limited for the contemporary student.
In comes Kenhub! A fantastic resource I stumbled on while studying for my first Osteology midterm. This anatomy-focused tool is consistent in providing you with anatomical knowledge on origin, innervation, insertion, and function. I believe Kenhub is far superior to any other resource online for topographical anatomy and general anatomy. Most books or online resources will use an arrow to point toward the anatomical structure, whereas Kenhub uses beautiful illustrations with shading of the relevant structure. This ensures that you are fully confident of what exactly the anatomical term represents. This way, Kenhub allowed me to visualise and memorise all the terms I needed to know,
Another reason Kenhub is superior to other resources is that it gives you the Latin, English, and German terms for each body part. In European medical universities, students must learn the Latin roots of anatomical terminology. As an English student, knowing the English terms allowed me to understand and remember terms much more quickly. It was refreshing to have both terms in one resource!
Kenhub also offers really nice medical imaging perspectives for anatomy students. Initially, I struggled to understand X-rays and CTs because everything was very unclear in the traditional books, so Kenhub's clear and precise shading was a lifesaver.
The Histology section is filled with great videos and a growing library of explanations. It really aided me in condensing and solidifying all the information I got from my medical lectures and seminars at university.
Kenhub also offers a fun, on-the-go app where you can quickly brush up on your gross anatomy knowledge as you travel, wait for an appointment, or get fed up with listening to a boring professor in class!
We all know that using different methods is the best way for your frontal lobe to absorb information! Hence, alongside the atlas, you can make use of detailed articles, explanatory videos and quizzes.
All in all, I've loved using this interactive tool to tackle the dense subject of Anatomy. You should give Kenhub a try because I'm sure you'll enjoy getting lost in its immersive, interactive and engaging content. Kenhub's library is constantly expanding and growing with information, so membership with them has been simply an investment, not a payment.
Make sure you are happy with your medical university and teachers because they are an important supplement to Kenhub. If not, consider transferring to a medical university in Europe.
