This holds especially true for aspiring students looking to study Medicine or graduate entry Medicine.

Essential Information About Caribbean Medical Schools

There are 2 things you should know before going down the list, and they are:

Accreditation in the Caribbean:

Accreditation in the Caribbean is usually carried out by one of the following:

  • The local Government’s Ministry of Education
  • Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and other Health Professions (CAAM-HP)
  • The Accreditation Commission on Colleges of Medicine (ACCM), which is an international medical review and accreditation agency service for medical schools.

Some universities may opt to get accredited and/or recognised by several accreditation bodies to further solidify their status as a premier destination for studying Medicine. For instance, the Richmond Gabriel University College of Medicine has earned 6 different accreditations, approvals, and recognitions.

The information in this list is accurate as of December 1st, 2023, but is prone to change in the future.

Tuition Fee Structure in the Caribbean:

Most medical schools in the region have divided their curriculum into a Basic Sciences phase and a Clinical Training phase with a semester-based tuition fee. These 2 stages of your medical education come at differing costs due to the resources required to provide students with hands-on clinical experience.

For the sake of simplicity and clarity, we’ve calculated the on-average tuition fee costs per year, where possible, and have listed them with sources. Please keep in mind that these are the prices as of December 1st, 2023, but are eligible to change in the future. 1. Thank you for the list. One question though - how are Caribbean medical schools recognised by the GMC? Can graduates easily practice medicine in the UK?

    1. Yes, you can absolutely work in the UK after graduating in the Caribbean. The main requirements of the GMC to be eligible to practice in the UK are for the university to be listed in WDOMS and for the medicine course to consist of at least 5,500 hours and 3+ years of medical education with in-person clinical training. You can see the full GMC criteria in our informative blog: https://blog.medlinkstudents.com/overseas-medical-qualifications-recognised-in-uk-gmc-approval-guide/
