The admission process for medical school can be challenging and incomprehensible for many students. Every university has different entry requirements - many of which will require you to sit a written test in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Mathematics. Some may also mandate a motivational letter or a personal medical statement. You’ll most likely be invited to a face-to-face / online interview to evaluate your passion for studying medicine.

The only universal requirement for admission to medical school in Europe is English proficiency, as the courses for international students are fully taught in English. After all, universities want to be sure that you can effectively communicate with your teachers, classmates, and patients during clinical rotations. 

How to Study Medicine in Europe Without Entrance Exam

It’s important to remember that just because a school doesn’t have an entrance exam doesn’t mean there aren’t other requirements that need to be kept and adhered to. As mentioned above, you’ll need to prove your proficiency in English to study at a European school, with or without an entrance exam. While you might skip the test in Biology or Chemistry, if English isn’t your native language, you’ll need to pass an English proficiency test like IELTS before you can be accepted. This is a universal requirement for all medical universities teaching in English.

In addition, nearly all medical schools that teach medicine in English also have interviews they conduct with their students. Most commonly, this is done via Skype, WhatsApp, or another online service that supports calls (rather than in-person due to the distance involved). While it’s not a test, the teachers will examine your knowledge, character, and motivations to ensure you’re truly dedicated to becoming a doctor. They may ask you questions about science that are relevant to your previous education. Still, they most often will ask about why you want to be a doctor, how you set your priorities, how you handle extreme stress and other similar questions. While they may seem a little annoying, they’re an important step in getting your medical education off the ground.

#1. Petre Shotadze Tbilisi Medical Academy (Georgia)

Since 2012, Tbilisi Medical Academy has successfully offered medicine courses in English to international students. Studying in Georgia at TMA means completing a 6-year programme and earning a medical degree that meets international quality assurance requirements.

The admission requirements for the Petre Shotadze Tbilisi Medical Academy are an English language (B2) and a high school diploma. An online interview via Zoom is mandatory. Applicants have to provide the necessary documents, such as a copy of their passports, school leaving certificates, filled application forms and letters, and NEET exam results (for Indian students).

The tuition fee for the 6-year medical programme is USD 7,000 (around €6,590).

This university offers medicine, dentistry, and graduate entry medicine courses.

The admission requirements for the European University in Tbilisi are a high-school diploma and fluency in English. After a successful application, you will be invited to an interview where the admission tutors will ask a few general questions in Biology and Chemistry and explain why you are interested in studying medicine.

The tuition fee for the 6-year medical programme is USD 5,500 (around €5,200). The dentistry course duration is 5 years, and the annual cost is USD 4,500 (about €4,200).

Carol Davila University is the oldest medical school in Romania. It has no entry examination, only an English test. To get accepted, you need a pass in Biology and Chemistry during the last three years of your high school education or an A-level pass in Biology and Chemistry.

The price for the medicine course is €7,500 per year.

#4. University Of Medicine & Pharmacy Craiova (Romania)

This university provides fantastic opportunities for studying medicine or dentistry in a 6-year programme with annual fees of €6,000.

Every year, the Medical University of Craiova accepts 50 medical and 30 dental students from foreign countries.

Applicants must have a biology and chemistry diploma in their high school. You must also submit a copy of an accredited institution’s English language proficiency certificate (minimum B2 level). However, you are exempted from it if you are a native English speaker or completed high school where the teaching language is English.

#5. Ovidius University Constanta (Romania)

This university is named after the famous Roman poet Publius Ovidius Naso, known in English as Ovid. The Ovidius University of Constanta accepts international students into medicine and dentistry programmes with tuition fees of €5,000 per year.

To be eligible for admission to the first year of medical school, you must have passed Biology and Chemistry at A-level or during the final 3 years of your high school education. Applicants from non-English speaking countries or who don’t have an English language proficiency certificate must pass a simple English test.

#6. Iuliu Hatieganu University Of Medicine And Pharmacy (Romania)

At Iuliu Hatieganu University, also known as the Medical University of Cluj, you can study medicine (6 years), dentistry (6 years), and pharmacy (5 years). The cost for all courses is €7,500 per year.

The minimum application requirement is a high school diploma from an accredited high school in your country of origin. Applicants who aren’t native English speakers must take an English exam at Cluj Medical University to check their grammar and English language abilities.

This medical school is located in Iași, one of Romania's most populous cities. At Grigore T. Popa University, you can enrol in a 6-year-long medicine or dentistry programme. The annual cost of education is €7,500 per year.

High school grades, certificates, and personal achievements are used to evaluate future students. If you come from a country where the official language is not English, you must present a copy of an English language skill certificate with a minimum B2 level.

If you are a non-native English speaker, you must sit just a simple English test. The institution recognises the following degrees and certifications for admission:

Here, the tuition fees for medicine and dentistry are €19,000 per year.

The admission requirements for this university are:

• Successful graduation from high school
• You must have past Biology plus one of the following: Chemistry, Maths or Physics or pass at GCE A levels

As the medical schools mentioned above, if you aren’t a native English speaker, you must submit an English proficiency certificate.

At this university, you can study medicine in English for 6 years. You can also apply for the graduate entry medical programme if you have a previous health-related degree.

The tuition is as follows:

• €18,000 for years 1- 3 and €22,000 for the final 3 years
• For graduate entry students, the programme costs €30,000 per year

The admission requirements for the University of Nicosia are a high school leaving certificate and an English proficiency certificate (for non-native speakers only), and you will be required to attend an interview.

Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Krakow University offers only a medical programme in English with a duration of 6 years.

The tuition fees are:

• €18,400 for years 4 and 5
• €17,000 for year 6

Admission requirements are good grades in your high school diploma and at least a B2 English proficiency level.

Here, you can study medicine and dentistry. The tuition fees at the Medical University of Lublin are as follows:

For medicine:

• €12,600 for year 1
• €12,000 for years 2 and 3
• €14,800 for years 4 and 5
• €15,000 for year 6

For dentistry:

• €13,300 for year 1
• €13,000 for years 2 and 3
• €14,100 for years 4 and 5

The admission test is not required for applicants who studied in countries that are members of the E.U., OECD, or EFTA or those with an International or European Baccalaureate. They are only permitted to apply with the grades from their high school diplomas.

Applicants who studied outside the E.U., OECD, or EFTA and do not hold an International or European Baccalaureate must take a test. The test includes 100 multiple-choice questions from Biology and two disciplines from your choice of Chemistry, Physics, or Mathematics.

#13. Wroclaw Medical University (Poland)

Wroclaw Medical University charges the following:

• Medicine costs €11,000 per year;
• Dentistry costs €13,000 per year.

If you wish to apply to this university, there are no admission tests or interviews. The score and ranking will be determined only by your high school graduation grades in the following subjects: Chemistry, Biology (required), and Physics or Mathematics. Students whose first language is not English must show English proficiency at the B2 level or higher.

#14. Pomeranian Medical University In Szczecin (Poland)

Here, you can study medicine and dentistry courses. The cost for each programme is:

Medicine:

• €12,000 each year for the first four years.
• €11,000 each year over the next 5-6 years

Dentistry:

• €12,000 per year for all years

The entrance ranking at Pomeranian Medical University depends on your high school graduation grades.

Jan Kochanowski University now offers a 6-year M.D. programme in English. The annual tuition cost is €12,000.

You only need an English language certificate and decent grades in your high school diploma or secondary school leaving certificate to enrol here. Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics are the disciplines that will be important.

Riga Stradins University is rated among the top 500 European universities and the top 1000 institutions globally as of 2019.

The tuition fees are:

• Medicine - €12,000 per year
• Dentistry - €14,000 for the first 2 years, followed by €15,000 for the next 3 years
• Pharmacy - €8,000 for the first 2 years, followed by €9,000 for the next 3 years

You must have studied at least two semesters of Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics at your high school.

There are no English certifications or admission examinations because the high school grade in "English" will be considered.

The Acibadem University is located in Istanbul, Turkey. The annual cost of medical education is €22,700.

There is no entrance test for Biology or Chemistry. You can apply with the following:

• Abitur

You will also be required to submit proof of English competence. You must take the University's English exam if you do not have one.

The MD programme at the University of Split costs €12,000 per year. To apply to the University of Split, you must have a high school diploma and a minimum of 12 years of study.

There are no entry tests or extra credentials required by the institution. To enrol in the medical course taught in English, you must be fluent in the language.
